Epic of Bloody "Prize" Continues

Kauno Diena: 16.04.2004; author: Leonas Zalys; page: 1; 17

The US sports channel ESPN has broadcast one more report from Lithuania after strict disapprovals of Lithuanian Government and Lithuanian-Americans. The first report informed about the alleged participation of inter-war Lithuanian basketball players in the killing of the Jews. In the second report broadcast on Sunday former President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus rejected the accusations against well-known basketball players Norkai; famous historian Saulius Suziedelis claimed it vital to substantiate accusations by facts, not gossips.

Meanwhile, Israeli historians who wrote about this horrible "prize" claimed they had based their writings on words of one witness Jewish Izaok Nemencik who had lived in Kaunas.

However, brothers Norkai and other inter-war basketball players accused of the killing of the Jews denied their guilt. Despite that, the case related to this scandal was filed to a special department under the US Ministry of Justice for investigation.
